ACCOUNTING MANAGER (RETAIL REAL ESTATE)

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and prepares property-level monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and monthly general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Ensures system-prepared schedules reconcile to related schedules and documents and resolves reconciling differences.
  • Manages accounts payable responsibilities for select portfolio properties.
  • Oversees cash management, including daily cash inflows and outflows across company accounts.
  • Reviews and assists with annual CAM, tax, insurance, and other operating-expense reconciliations.
  • Prepares the Schedule of Real Estate Owned, Property Performance Summary, and Personal Consolidated Financial Statement.
  • Maintains proficiency in accounting software, including QuickBooks, to support efficient financial operations. Assists with debt refinancing, loan extensions, purchase transactions, and exchange transactions.
  • Assists with preparing loan draws, including gathering and organizing all required supporting documentation.
  • Coordinates year-end audits and tax preparation, including schedules, documentation, and responses to external advisors.
  • Partners with property and asset management teams to develop annual budgets and forecasts aligned with ownership goals and objectives.
  • Reviews and assists with compliance filings.
  • Reviews and assists with obtaining and renewing or replacing portfolio property insurance policies.
  • Interfaces with auditors and assists in preparing required audit schedules and supporting materials.
  • Submits completed state information reporting forms to the appropriate agencies to keep entities in good standing.
  • Ensures timely submission of city license-renewal forms and associated fees. Reviews operating agreements, loans, purchase and sale agreements, settlement statements, and legal documents for accounting and compliance purposes.
  • Completes year-end work papers and assists with information required for tax-return preparation.
  • Supervises and mentors accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, productive work environment.
  • Maintains timely, professional communication with internal teams and external contacts through correspondence, email, and phone calls.
  • Works closely with property managers, leasing agents, asset management personnel, the controller, and the principal.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification is preferred
  • Minimum of five years of commercial real estate industry experience, with a strong emphasis on retail properties.
  • Demonstrated experience with commercial leases, CAM reconciliations, budgeting, and lender reporting.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and QuickBooks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while maintaining discretion and confidentiality in company matters.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-focused.
