CONTROLLER (REAL ESTATE)
Responsibilities:
- Oversee property accounting and reporting for 150+ assets
- Supervise 3-4 property accounting managers
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team capable of maintaining strong financial processes and partnering across departments to meet organizational goals.
- Work closely with finance executives to establish, enhance, and monitor institutional systems, internal controls, and performance metrics governing the property accounting function.
- Create and lead training initiatives focused on continuous improvement, process optimization, best practices, and the adoption of new accounting technologies.
- Promote clear communication and collaboration between corporate and property accounting teams, as well as with asset management, leasing, construction, and valuation departments to ensure consistency, efficiency, and alignment with company strategies and tenant expectations.
- Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, subledgers, CAM reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, and all monthly financial reporting. Approve and validate all monthly reporting packages.
- Manage internal controls and support functions related to property-level treasury operations.
- Serve as the lead administrator for property accounting systems such as MRI, Avid, banking platforms, and other related applications.
- Coordinate and prepare documentation and responses for internal and external audit processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA and some public accounting preferred but not required
- 7+ years of experience in property and real estate accounting
- Strong supervisory experience (need to have managed managers)
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Strong experience with real estate systems such as MRI and Yardi
- Experience in building/expanding a department and leading high performing teams
